Watch: Will Mahmood’s supporters blow revolt bugle?
Resentment is brewing in Okhla AAP after Zakir Nagar’s most popular youth leader Mahmood Ahmed was denied ticket by the party for the upcoming MCD elections 2022. Though Mahmood couldn’t be reached for his reaction over the development as his phone was switched off, a close aide of the AAP leader told the OT on the condition of anonymity that this is injustice and supporters have called a meeting to discuss future course of action.
After Mahmood had lost previous MCD election against sitting Congress Councillor Shoaib Danish with a whisker, he had emerged in the locality as a strong opposition leader always raising his voice over burning issues. And many were expecting that with the Zakir Nagar ward being declared reserved seat for women his wife won’t face difficulties in getting AAP ticket.
But many Okhla watchers and Mahmood’s supporters were left shocked when the list was announced with Ariz Khan winning the battle and getting ticket for his wife Shama Khan from the ward.
It is not known what will be decided in the meeting but people close to Mahmood said a lot of things will be discussed. One YouTuber who has covered Okhla for years told the OT over phone that denial of ticket to Mahmood is a big blow to his camp.
Now, all eyes are on the 2 pm meeting called at Mahmood’s house in Batla House.
The other AAP leaders who lost in the ticket race included Laddan, Khateeb Tihami, Shakeel Saifi and others.
