Action against 4 illegally constructed buildings in Madanpur Khadar: SDMC, anti-encroachment drive in other areas held
The SDMC said its anti-encroachment team took action on four illegally constructed buildings in Madanpur Khadar area of Central Zone.
It was here that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan, who was among those agitating against the drive, has been detained along with others, the Delhi police said, as per PTI. However, the AAP leader claimed he has been arrested by the Delhi police. “Delhi Police has arrested me. Can imprison me, not my spirits,” Khan said in a tweet in Hindi.
Denying the AAP MLA’s allegation, a senior police officer said as reported by zeenews.india.com: “We have detained AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan and others who protested against the drive along with supporters and locals. We have made adequate security arrangements to ensure no untoward incident takes place.”
Till the filing of this report it is not known whether he was released or not.
During the drive in Sriniwaspuri area, nearly 2.5 kilometres long stretch from Iskon temple road, Dhirsen road, etc were made encroachment free and a total of 32 articles were also seized, it said.
In West Zone, an anti-encroachment drive was carried out in Khyala and Punjabi Bagh where illegal permanent and temporary structures were removed from the government land. During the action, nearly 2 kilometres area along Chand Nagar road in Khayala’s Vishnu Garden area was made encroachment free while nine items were also confiscated.
Encroachment removal was carried out at the places like Paschim Puri road and Central Market road in Punjabi Bagh area where nearly 2.2 kilometres of area was freed from illegal encroachment. SDMC squad also seized as many as 28 articles and impounded five vehicles.
In Najafgarh Zone, the SDMC said its team conducted the drive along Sagarpur nallah to Kailash Puri road located in Sagarpur and Dabri. SDMC’s anti-encroachment team dismantled temporary construction on the roadside. During the action, encroachment was removed from the 2.8-kilometre area. A total of 16 items were seized while one vehicle was also impounded.
The civic agency will continue similar kind of action against encroachment in future also.
