A video of fire at Kanchan Kunj has surfaced on the social media a few minutes ago. A resident did a FB live saying that the fire was at a jhuggi. Several jhuggis were gutted, according to netizens who rushed on the spot to grab video.

Abdul Wahab Mallik said Rohingya refugees were staying in these jhuggis and they were gutted. It has been reported that six fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire. No casualties were reported but a huge loss of property as all belongings of the refugees were gutted, said Wahab, adding that as fire spread on Saturday late night residents ran for their safety leaving behind their properties. Representatives of several NGOs turned up to serve food to the needy.
“Fifty-six shanties, housing around 270 Rohingya refugees, were gutted in the fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and appropriate legal action is being taken,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) RP Meena said.
