


Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is proud to announce that a team of students from its Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) has received the “Best Student Innovation Pavilion” award at GRIDCON-2025. This annual conference and exhibition was organised by POWERGRID in association with the Ministry of Power from March 9 to 11, 2025. The award was presented at an impressive ceremony held during the event, which featured participation from leading academic institutions and industry experts from the power and energy sectors. GRIDCON-2025 provided a platform for showcasing cutting-edge technologies and innovations aimed at addressing the challenges in the energy landscape.

The Jamia team, consisting of Ankur Bhargava and Vikas Thakur from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Raiyyan Ahmad from the Department of Electrical Engineering, and their esteemed faculty mentors, Prof. Mohd. Suhaib and Dr. Md. Sarwar, earned the award for their outstanding innovations in applications of IoT-Based Hybrid Navigation System for Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) for Power Transmission Sector. The system enables real-time monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and autonomous navigation. By incorporating cloud-based data transmission, edge computing, and AI-driven sensor fusion, AMRs can autonomously inspect and maintain power transmission infrastructure. It can revolutionize grid monitoring, inspection, and maintenance, enhancing reliability and safety.

Participating alongside Jamia were some of the nation’s top institutions, including IIT Madras, IIT Ropar, IIT Jammu, MNIT Allahabad, NIT Jalandhar, and several others. The competition was fierce, with each institution presenting groundbreaking solutions for the future of the power and energy sectors. The recognition of JMI’s innovation demonstrates the strength of the university’s engineering programs and its commitment to fostering interdisciplinary research and innovation.
Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, JMI, expressed immense pride in the team’s achievement, stating, “This award is a testament to the brilliance and hard work of our students and their dedication to addressing challenges in the field of power sector. It underscores the value of creativity and technical knowledge, which are deeply embedded in the academic culture at Jamia Millia Islamia.”
