Some students protested against Indresh Kumar visit to Jamia today on the campus. However, the seminar in which Indresh attended was held successfully with Vice Chancellor Najma Akhar and other university officials welcoming him, said sources.
Security was beefed up on the campus with students allowed to protest at library area. The seminar was held successfully at faculty of Engineering auditorium with packed guests, said sources.
Dozens of students gathered outside gate no 7 of Jamia Millia Islamia as Kumar was addressing an event inside the campus. Kumar was at the university to deliver a keynote address during a seminar on Modi@20: Dreams Meet Delivery.
Students were seen holding placards.
Several student groups including Fraternity Movement, Students Islamic Organisation of India, All India Students Association, All India Revolutionary Students Organisation, Campus Front of India and Dayar-e-Shauq Student Charter joined the protest.
This is not the first time that Jamia students have objected to Kumar’s visit to the campus. In 2017 as well, students of the varsity protested his visit to an Iftar party organised by the RSS-affiliated Muslim Rashtriya Manch. As the meet was announced, residents and Jamia biradri were found sharing the posters on the social media, soliciting comments from others.
And on Thursday when Kumar was to visit the university, security was upped on the campus. Protesting students were not allowed to move to the Engineering Faculty auditorium.
