


The Centre for Training and Development, Jamia Hamdard, in collaboration with the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India successfully conducted a three-day training workshop on Capacity Building from March 5 to March 7, 2025. The workshop brought together participants from 15 states across India, focusing on skill enhancement, effective communication and professional development.
The workshop commenced on March 5, 2025, with welcome address by Prof. Reshma Nasreen, followed by an inaugural address by Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Vice Chancellor of Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies. The event was graced by C. P. S. Bakshi, IRS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, as the Chief Guest. C. P. S. Bakshi emphasised the role of skill-based courses and discussed the opportunities for Jamia Hamdard in the area of Skill development. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Abha Rani, CMD, NMDFC, who emphasised the importance of collaboration in organising such workshops. The inaugural session was presided by Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard.
Over the three days, participants engaged in a series of interactive sessions covering Capacity Building, Leadership Development & Interpersonal relationships, Project Management, Technology Utilization, Communication management, Team Building, Financial Management, and Social Media Management. In addition to these sessions, physiotherapy sessions were also conducted to emphasise the importance of physical fitness in daily life. Resource persons from both academia and industry, including experts from Jamia Hamdard and other institutions, led these sessions.
The three-day workshop concluded on March 7, 2025, with a report presentation by Prof. Syeedun Nisa, Hony. Director, Centre for Training and Development, Jamia Hamdard. The concluding remarks were delivered by Prof. Reshma Nasreen, Chairperson, Centre for Training and Development, Jamia Hamdard.
Dr. Abha Rani Singh, CMD, NMDFC and Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard highlighted the significance of such training programs in fostering individual growth and organisational development. The workshop culminated with the distribution of mementos and certificates to participants by Chancellor Hammad Ahmed.
The three-day event was a remarkable success, strengthening professional capabilities and fostering meaningful learning experiences for all participants.
In another development, National Science Day was celebrated at Jamia Hamdard on 28th February, 2025. The theme of National Science Day 2025 as declared by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India was “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for Viksit Bharat”. The theme reflects a strategic focus on promoting public appreciation for Science, Technology and Innovation and accomplishments of Indian scientists to address challenges through home-grown technologies for over-all well-being, especially by the young minds.
The Chief Guest for the Event was Krishna Devi Shivshankar Patel, Member of Parliament -Lok Sabha and Member, Standing Committee of Parliament, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Food Processing, Govt. of India. Prof. Yogendra Kumar Gupta, President, AIIMS (Jammu) and Principal Advisor, India Strategy Development – Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership (GARDP) and Dr. Suphiya Khan, Deputy Director, Shriram Institute for Industrial Research, Gurugram were the Guests of Honour. Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam presided over the programme.
Prof. S. Raisuddin, Dean (Academics), Jamia Hamdard welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the University achievements in NIRF, QS and THE rankings, accomplishment of faculty and scholars of Jamia Hamdard in research and innovation.
The Chief Guest Krishna Devi Shivshankar Patel in her address emphasised the importance of science, research and education for the benefit of the society. She appreciated that Jamia Hamdard has embarked upon a formidable journey in research and education. She remembered our Founder Janab Hakim Abdul Hameed. She praised the University for achieving the various world rankings and congratulated the leadership of the Vice Chancellor. She emphasized the need for scientific literacy and encouraged students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Guest of Honour Prof. Y. K. Gupta, in his National Science Day lecture emphasised on the innovation and affordable technology is the need of the hour and and is an important key to Viksit Bharat. He further emphasised upon the need of creating reproducible research and stronger Academia -Industry partnership. He urged students to develop trait of inquisitiveness.
Guest of Honour Dr. Suphiya Khan in her address emphasized women empowerment and the role of women scientists in strengthening the society. She presented her efforts which lead to transfer of technology of water treatment from laboratory to industry and field.
A total of 23 books by the faculty of Jamia Hamdard were released on the occasion of National Science Day 2025. The celebration included felicitation of research scholars and faculty members in the domains of original research and reviews publication with high impact factors, projects and patents
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam was generous with the appreciation of scholars and faculty members. He encouraged the students to unravel the spirit of enquiry and innovation. He concluded by asking the faculty to continue to undertake good and meaningful research relevant to society.

In other event, Rufaida College of Nursing, Jamia Hamdard, proudly celebrated the 27th Lamp Lighting & Oath Taking Ceremony on February 27, 2025, at the Convention Centre, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. The event marked a significant milestone for 126 B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing and Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (DGNM) 1st-year students, symbolising their formal induction into the noble profession of nursing.
The ceremony, which honours the legacy of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing and “The Lady with the Lamp,” was graced by distinguished guests from across the healthcare and legal sectors. Dr. Anju Rathi Rana, Additional Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, was the Chief Guest, while Dr. Deepika Cecil Khakha, Nursing Advisor, Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, served as the Guest of Honour.
The event was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, who in his address, celebrated the significance of nursing in healthcare and expressed pride in the students’ decision to embark on this noble path. He highlighted Jamia Hamdard’s rich history of educational excellence and emphasised the continuing legacy of Rufaida College of Nursing, founded by Hakeem Abdul Hameed in 1983.
Prof. (Dr.) Shakir Ali, Dean, School of Nursing Sciences & Allied Health, Jamia Hamdard, welcomed the new nursing students, urging them to embrace the challenges of their profession with dedication and passion. He emphasised that the lamp lighting ceremony signifies a student’s transition into the compassionate and transformative field of nursing, where hard work and commitment know no bounds.
During the ceremony, Prof. Veena Sharma, Principal, Rufaida College of Nursing, presented the annual report, reflecting on the college’s accomplishments in academics and research. Following the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, the light was passed to the students by Saba Hashmi (Assistant Professor, Rufaida College of Nursing) and Ms. Rajlaxmi, (Tutor, Rufaida College of Nursing). The Florence Nightingale pledge was administered by Dr. Anjali Kaushik, Assistant Professor, Rufaida College of Nursing, marking the students’ official entry into the profession.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Deepika Cecil Khakha, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the essential role of nurses in providing compassionate, patient-centered care. She urged students to approach their nursing journey with resilience and a deep sense of responsibility, knowing the profound impact they can make on healthcare outcomes.
The Chief Guest Dr. Anju Rathi Rana highlighted the holistic nature of nursing, which goes beyond medical care to encompass compassion, emotional support, and patient comfort. She spoke about the important role nurses play in achieving the goal of a Healthy India, contributing to the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2027.
Dr. M.A. Sikandar, Registrar of Jamia Hamdard, congratulated the students for choosing nursing as their profession, a path that embodies selflessness and a deep commitment to humanity. He expressed confidence in their ability to contribute significantly to the future of healthcare.
In her address, Dr. Heena Parveen, an esteemed Educationist, underscored the diverse roles nurses play in patient care, emphasising empathy, dignity, and dedication.
The ceremony concluded with the national anthem, as the newly inducted nursing students embarked on their journey to becoming skilled, compassionate, and dedicated professionals in the healthcare sector.
