A grand ‘Tiranga Yatra’ bringing together thousands of staff and students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), was today flagged off by the Vice Chancellor, JMI, Prof Mazhar Asif and Registrar, JMI, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi  to mark the government’s Har Ghar Tiranga (HGT) campaign. Under the auspices of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” which is being observed from August 2 to 15, 2025,  the Tiranga rally was organized with the intention of encouraging people to bring the Tiranga home and to proudly hoist it in observance of India’s independence. The rally commenced at Gate No. 15 of the university, took a roundabout on the university’s main road, and ended at the Ansari Auditorium Lawn.

Deans of Faculties, DSW, Head of Departments, Directors of Centres, the University Librarian, Chief Proctor, Prof Asad Malik, Principals and teachers of Jamia Schools and hundreds of faculty, students and staff members of JMI adorning tricolour scarves, dupattas and accessories enthusiastically participated in the Tiranga Yatra.

VC, JMI, Prof Asif who began his speech with the phrase ‘Saare Jahan se Accha’ said: “The Tiranga Yatra is not only a way of expressing our patriotism and love for our motherland but it also binds and unifies us, especially our youth.” Prof Asif added:  “The Tiranga Yatra is not just our salute to the nation but provides us with a significant opportunity to march together and reflect on our duties towards the country.” By participating in the Tiranga Yatra, the faculty , staff and students of Jamia have refurbished their pledge to fulfill the aspirations of all those who sacrificed their lives so that we live in a free country.

Registrar, JMI, Prof Rizvi said: “Such a display of patriotism and fervent love for the country has never been witnessed before. Teachers, staff and students of JMI have participated in the Har Ghar Tiranga Yatra with unprecedented zeal and enthusiasm. The HGT campaign teaches us about the sacrifice that has gone into attaining our independence. 79 years later, we have gathered here to pay glowing tributes to the sacrifices of all those who gave their lives for the country and honour them by following in their footsteps. We will continue to celebrate the Tiranga Yatra so that our future generations don’t forget the sacrifices of our freedom fighters.”

Prof Rizvi expressed thanks to the NCC cadets and NSS volunteers of JMI and the Dean of Students Welfare, Prof Neelofer Afzal, Dean of Humanities, NCC Coordinator, Prof. Iqtidar Mohd. Khan and NSS Coordinator, Mr. Viqar Hussain Siddiqui for their tireless efforts which ensured that the Tiranga March was a grand success and concluded his remarks with ‘Jai Hind’.

The Tiranga Yatra ended on a fervent and patriotic note with a recitation of the National Anthem and by echoes of ‘Jai Hind’ renting the air in the expansive lawns of the university.
