


Jamia Millia Islamia today terminated an Assistant Professor (Contractual) from the Department of Political Science after receiving information about his arrest following a complaint against him by a female at the New Friends Colony Police station, said the university in a statement.
The university administration responded immediately by terminating his services from the university, stating that Jamia Millia Islamia follows a zero tolerance policy for any form of violence against women.
The university administration, expressing its strong condemnation of the heinous crime, clarified that he is not a permanent faculty member, only a contractual employee on a temporary hiring basis. Nonetheless, the university administration, conveying its severe denouncement of the grave crime placed him under termination, stating that any assault on the honour, dignity and rights of women will not be tolerated by JMI and that the university is sure that justice will be served as law will take its own course.
That said, JMI has a duly constituted Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) under the POSH Act – the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, furthermore, there is wide dissemination of information with respect to this committee with the aim of making it accessible to all stakeholders of the university. All the ethical guidelines contained in the Act are completely and absolutely adhered to by the university.
In addition to this, regular gender sensitization workshops and lectures are proactively conducted by various Faculties, Departments and Centres of the university from time-to-time so as to sensitise students and other stakeholders against any form of sexual harassment of women and others provisions in the POSH Act.
