JMI faculty gets prestigious Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in US
Dr. Syed Jaleel Hussain, Assistant Professor at the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace & Conflict Resolution (NMCPCR), Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) has been awarded the prestigious Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowship to work at the South Asia Programme, Mario Einaudi Centre for International Studies, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York for a period of 12 months.
Cornell University is an ivy league US institution that has consistently ranked as one of the top 20 universities in major global rankings.
JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar congratulated Dr. Hussain for the achievement and wished him good luck for his future endeavours. Dr Hussain thanked the Vice Chancellor for all the support and guidance.
As a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell, Dr. Hussain is studying the relationship between the global Shia revival and subnational Shia movements. While examining the ideological and material links of such movements with Iran, he aims to understand its impact in transforming the nature of Shia self-consciousness and the ensuing identity politics and its significant bearing on their relationship with other Muslim sects.
Dr. Hussain pursued his Master’s and Ph.D. at NMCPCR, JMI. He is a University Gold Medalist (2012), an ICSSR doctoral fellow (2013-14), and a recipient of UGC’s Junior and Senior Research Fellowship (2014-17).
He has also been a recipient of the Gandhi Smriti Fellowship for Masters Programme (2009-2011). His research papers have been published in reputed national and international journalism.
