As Jain inspects revamp work at 2 hospitals, locals ask: When will new govt hospital be built in Okhla?

In a bid to develop a better health infrastructure in the national Capital, the Delhi Government said it is working on revamping several existing hospitals to increase the number of beds and also building new hospitals.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday inspected ongoing revamp work at the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital and Dr Baba Ambedkar Hospital.

Many Okhla residents too have been demanding opening of government hospital as their death was felt during second Covid wave with residents being compelled to visit private hospitals paying more for treatment.

He said the Delhi government is remodelling its healthcare infrastructure with state-of-the-art technologies and in this series, a new hospital building is being constructed at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital by the Delhi government which will add more than 350 beds to Delhi’s healthcare system.

Jain said a new building for mother & child care is being made by the Delhi government at Dr Baba Ambedkar Hospital, Rohini which will enhance its existing bed capacity from 500 to 963 beds.

Jain visited the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital on Monday, where a new hospital building is being created by the Delhi government. This hospital will be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies. This new building will add 362 new beds to Delhi’s health infrastructure.

“The Delhi government is remodelling its healthcare infrastructure with state-of-the-art technologies. In this series, a new hospital building is being constructed at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital by the Delhi government. This will add 350+ beds to Delhi’s healthcare system,” tweeted Jain.

After the construction, the existing bed capacity of the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital will expand from 300 to 662 beds. Thereafter, Jain visited the Dr Baba Ambedkar Hospital, Rohini. The Delhi government is giving a new shape to this healthcare facility. For this, a new 463 bedded block, dedicated to mother & child care is being constructed by the Delhi government.

“A new building for mother & child care is being made by the Delhi govt at Baba Ambedkar Hospital, Rohini. This will enhance its existing bed capacity from 500 to 963 beds,” tweeted Jain.

The current developments are an effort of the Delhi government to strengthen Delhi’s existing healthcare infrastructure with state-of-the-art facilities so that it could serve the people of Delhi not just in the present time but for several decades, he said.
