Gambusia fish released to control vector-borne diseases: Mayor Anamika
Mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation Anamika said the civic agency is making special efforts to prevent and control vector-borne diseases.

The Mayor today released Gambusia fish in artificial water collections/pond located at Civic Centre.
The Mayor said Gambusia fish is being dropped in 100 water bodies/ponds coming under jurisdiction of SDMC as it successfully eliminates mosquito larvae from water.
She said Gambusia fish has been dropped in 46 water bodies/ponds till now.
The Mayor said the fish can be released in ponds, water collections, water bodies and drains as it has expertise in eating mosquito larvae. In addition to this, the Mayor also convened a meeting with senior officials of Public Health Department and asked them to intensify preventive measures against vector-borne diseases.
She said the Public Health Department has been making efforts to prevent and control vector-borne diseases-dengue, malaria & chikungunya-since January this year and insecticidal spray is also being done by the DBC workers.
