Former Jamia student dies in road accident, 2 critically hurt

A pall of gloom enveloped the corridors of Jamia Millia Islamia’s Department of Management Studies (DMS) on Thursday as news spread that one of its former students had lost her life in a road accident in Noida.

Teachers and alumni struggled to come to terms with the sudden loss of a young life that had once been full of ambition and promise.

“Gulfisha (single name) was our student and worked in ICICI Bank. DMS is shocked by her tragic accident and expresses heartfelt condolences,” read a message that quickly began circulating on social media and alumni groups. For many at Jamia, the name was not just another headline but a familiar face from classrooms, presentations, group discussions and long hours spent preparing for a professional future.

According to a media report, the fatal accident took place on Thursday in Noida’s Sector 71, where a speeding car rammed into a divider. Gulfisha, 31, died in the crash, while two others travelling with her sustained life-threatening injuries. The injured have been identified as Murtaza Abbas, 31, a resident of New Delhi, and Anushka Chaudhary, 27,  from Mathura. Police said all three occupants of the car were bank employees.

Gulfisha, a native of Bareilly, was working at a bank in Delhi and had been steadily building her career after graduating from Jamia. On the day of the accident, she and her colleagues were travelling from Delhi to Noida when their car reportedly went out of control near Sector 71 and crashed into the divider with great force.

Police said the three were travelling from Delhi to Noida when their car went out of control near Sector 71 and rammed into the divider. On receiving information, personnel from Phase 3 police station rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a hospital. Police said Murtaza was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident and lost control due to over-speeding and low visibility.

Despite efforts by doctors, Gulfisha succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Her death sent shockwaves through her family and friends, many of whom learned of the tragedy through a media report.

Murtaza Abbas and Anushka Chaudhary are currently undergoing treatment, and their condition is said to be serious. The police have seized the car involved in the accident and sent Gulfisha’s body for post-mortem examination. Her family has been informed, and further investigation into the incident is underway. Police officials said that no complaint has been received so far.

“They were rushed to a nearby hospital. Gulfisha died on the spot and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The two injured were admitted to the ICU and are now being shifted to another hospital for further treatment,” said Vidhiyanchal Tiwari, station house officer (SHO) of Phase-3 police station.

A senior official said: “A mobile police patrol vehicle on night duty was in the vicinity and reached the spot soon after the crash.”

Back at Jamia, grief found quiet expression.
