Design degree show features innovative student projects
The Department of Design and Innovation at Jamia Millia Islamia organised its annual Design Degree Show on Monday. The event was inaugurated by the esteemed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eqbal Hussain, along with Prof. Hina Zia, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, and Prof. Bindulika Sharma, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, among other dignitaries.
The show was a vibrant display of creative ideas and innovative designs. According to Saniuddin Khan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Design and Innovation, students have excelled in addressing real-life issues such as commutation and global warming through their projects. “Our students have developed commendable design solutions to various social problems, emphasizing sustainability and entrepreneurship,” he stated.
A key highlight of the event was a working prototype of a vehicle designed for commuting within the university, created by Md. Arbaz. This vehicle, showcased at the MF Husain Art Gallery, is complemented by an app based on a subscription model to provide campus directions. The Vice Chancellor himself took the opportunity to test the vehicle, demonstrating its practical application.
Other noteworthy projects included Md. Kafeel Ahmad’s work on “Fabric Revolution,” which aims to transform the fashion industry by introducing a unique building technique to reduce waste. Yasir Ashfaq and Ayman Zahra tackled mental health issues with their innovative design solutions, while Hafsa Khatoon presented advancements in bag design.
The Design Degree Show highlighted the remarkable talent and dedication of Jamia Millia Islamia’s students, offering a glimpse into the future of sustainable and innovative design.
