Deen was 65 years old and belonged to a family who settled in Okhla Village when the area was just barren land with only a few buildings standing in the locality, said Sikandar Choudhary, who knows the family.
Deen’s son told the OT that it was in October when his father was diagnosed of tongue cancer and he couldn’t recover from the deadly disease.
“When my mother woke up this morning to offer Fajar she realised that my father was not breathing. He didn’t wake up from his deep slumber. And we couldn’t make out when he passed away,” he said.
As he was diabetic, he could not be operated upon and in the last six months his conditions went from bad to worse, he said.
Shoaib Danish told the OT that Deen was a known face in Okhla once. Deen was popularly known as Deenu Thekedar and was known to all politicians, including Pervez Hashmi, Asif Md Khan, and others, said Abdul Wahab Malik.
A school dropout, Deen’s father came to Okhla in 1945 from Haryana and settled at Okhla Village. Later on, Deen moved to a house near Khalilullah masjid, said his son, who runs a gym in Batla House.
Deen has left behind a wife and six children, including 3 sons and 3 daughters.
