By winning Zakir Nagar for 4th time, Danish emerges as strong Cong MLA contender
By winning Zakir Nagar ward for the fourth time in a row, Shoaib Danish has emerged as a popular leader of Okhla and emerging as a MLA contender from the Congress in the locality.
Political observers said though Danish has won from the ward by defeating the AAP candidate with a small margin, he has succeeded in holding to his forte. In the 2017 election too, Danish had won with a small margin with AAP’s Mahmood Ahmed tasting defeat.
Naziya got 16,878 votes, Salma bagged 16,405 votes in the 10th round of voting, according to the State Election Commission. Others who contested from this ward included Lata Devi from Bharatiya Janata Party, Salma Khan from AAP, and Nazra Parween from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party. The AIMIM candidate got 6,56 votes playing the major role in upsetting the AAP.
Then he had won against the AAP wave, said observers, adding that this time the undercurrent was with the Congress as Muslims were unhappy with the AAP and its chief Arvind Kejriwal on many front.
In most Muslim dominated wards of Delhi, Muslims had voted for Congress candidates. With the Zakir Nagar ward being reserved for women, Danish wife Naizia Danish won with a whisker. However, Danish road to MLA ticket won’t be easy as there are two more contenders Parvez Hashmi and Asif Md Khan, both former MLAs, said observers.
They said in this election Hashmi, who had lost to AAP’s Amanatullah Khan in the last election with a huge margin, was seen active in the election campaign and with Asif’s daughter Ariba Khan winning convincingly from the AFE ward, he would try his best to revive his political career.
