    Cricket Cup T-20 trophy returns to Jamia after 7 years

    Cricket Cup T-20 trophy returns to Jamia after 7 years

    In a stellar performance, Jamia Millia Islamia’s Staff Cricket Team clinched the championship title of the 21st All India Vice-Chancellor’s Cricket Cup T-20 Tournament-2025 organised by the Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Hisar (Haryana) from November 6-15, 2025.

    The tournament featured 24 teams from various Universities. The JMI team completed the tournament unbeaten and secured the coveted trophy with the final match played between Jamia Millia Islamia and University of Jammu teams. JMI Team won the match by 03 Wickets (Score: University of Jammu Team – 146/9 & JMI Team – 147/7).

    Tournament summary and key performances of Jamia team and players:

    • JMI Team played 08 matches and won all the matches.
    • JMI Team won 01 League Match with 10 Wickets.
    • JMI Team won the Quarter Final with 10 Wicketsdefeating MDU Rohtak Team (one of the strongest sides).

    Individual performance:

    Mohd. Akhlaque, Vice-Captain of JMI Staff Team (Technical Assistant, Centre for Physiotherapy) was the most valuable player from JMI (scored 274 runs & took 10 wickets having 45.4 MVP points). He played many match-winning innings and took crucial wickets as and when required.

    Mohd. Wahid (UDC, Finance & Accounts Office) was the Man of the Match (Final match) of the tournament from JMI (scored 46 runs of 34 balls). He was also named the Best Batsman of the Tournament from JMI (Matches: 8 | Runs scored: 326 | Average: 54.33 | Strike Rate: 180.11| 50s: 03).

    Prof. Sarfaraz Masood (Department of Computer Engineering) was the Best Bowler from JMI (Matches: 08 | Wickets: 12 | Economy: 6.13).

    Prof. Mazhar Asif, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, JMI felicitated the champions, JMI Staff Team Members, for their outstanding performance and appreciated their efforts in securing such a remarkable win. Thrilled to hear the news of the victory of the JMI Staff Team from the Director, Games & Sports, JMI, Prof Asif felicitated the players in a grand ceremony attended by hundreds of JMI teaching & non-teaching staff members.

    Prof. Asif giving his warmest congratulations on the occasion of the felicitation function, said: “This grand victory is a testament to the JMI team’s hard work, sheer dedication and team spirit “.

    Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, JMI congratulated the JMI Staff team  and praised the hard work and the competitive spirit that went into bringing glory to the university. He appreciated the efforts of the Director, Games & Sports, JMI, Prof Nafis Ahmad; all the players, the coach and the team manager for this huge success of JMI Staff Cricket Team and gave his best wishes to the team for their upcoming tournaments.

    Prof. Nafis Ahmad, Hony. Director (Games & Sports), JMI admired the impressive performance and determination of the Jamia Staff Team throughout the tournament and praised the discipline of each and every player, especially the selfless way they played as a unit without any personal interests. He further motivated them to continue to make Jamia proud in the future by their sincere efforts and commitment.
