After stopping him and enquiring about his health, the Jamia Nagar resident rushed to her kitchen and fetched khichdi to the beggar. She handed over it to him and locked her gate. But she said a minute later she realised to see what the beggar was doing and as she came out of her home she saw to her surprise that the man after walking a few meters from her house dumped the khichdi on the street and started walking away.
It was then that the resident said she confronted him. She said when she asked him why he threw the food, the beggar replied: “I want to eat biryani not khichdi.”
The incident left the woman horrified, she said, adding that now beggars too have become choosy.
Many residents lamented that for the last few years they have notice substantial increase in number of beggars moving around in Jamia Nagar.
They said now beggars are found everywhere outside grocery shops, eateries and some even knock at your door to ask for help. The mushrooming of beggars has left many residents confused as they face difficulties in differentiating between the professionals and the real needy.
A resident once said as he was walking down Batla House chowk, a beggar approached him and asked for help. He said he immediately handed over Rs 5 coin to the beggar and to his dismay, the beggar returned it back asking for more. He said the beggar threw the money, saying he won’t take small amount as it is of no help.
