Watch: Batla House resident’s brand new car hit in multi-vehicle crash, he survives accident with wife
A Batla House resident’s brand new car was among five vehicles which were hit by a DTC bus on Wednesday at Masigarh chowk.
One person was killed and at least four others were injured when a cluster bus rammed several vehicles (at least five) at a traffic signal near Julaina close to Holy Family Hospital and Jamia Millia Islamia on Wednesday evening, police said.
Batla House resident Kalimuddin said he was with his wife in his new Houndai Aura which he had bought just a few days ago. “Actually I was coming back after taking a new car plate number when at the Masigarh Chowk my car was hit as the bus had hit many vehicles,” he said.
Kalimuddin and his wife Tahseen sustained injuries. The Batla House resident said he was taken to Holy Family Hospital after have breathing problem. He said after treatment he came back and said he was lucky that he and his wife survived the accident.
Rajesh Deo, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) said: “At 4.45 pm, a call about an accident was received at the New Friends Colony police station. On reaching the spot, it was revealed that bus no 534, which goes from Mehrauli to Anand Vihar, was involved in the accident. When it reached near Masih Garh under Kalkaji flyover, it was supposed to take a left turn towards Sarai Jullena but could not do so due to some technical glitch such as brake failure or driver’s negligence. We are trying to ascertain the reason behind the accident.”
The accused driver fled the spot, he said.
It was known that the bus driver was later arrested.
An Al Shifa consultant Dr Sajjad, who had also sustained injuries in the accident, was shifted to Jamia Hamdard from Holy Hospital. The Al Shifa Hospital representative said he sustained injuries on his two legs and head. He is recovering well, said a hospital PRO.
A day ago, sharing about the development, Abul Fazal Enclave-based Al Shifa Hospital management said: “There is sad news that our consultant Dr Sajad, Endocrinology department, met with an accident nearby by Jamia Millia Islamia. He was in the auto. His legs’ both bones are fractured and he has sustained head injuries. He has been shifted from Holy Family Hospital to Jamia Hamdard. Please pray for his early recovery.”
The injured persons have been identified as Mohammad Saghir, Sajadul Islam, Mohammad Kalimuddin and Mohammad Tahsin. While Saghir’s left leg had to be amputated due to severe injuries, the others suffered minor injuries only, said police.
The police said it was yet to be ascertained whether the accident took place due to a mechanical error or because of rash driving, reported the HT.
“The passengers on the bus managed to escape without any injuries. The driver of the bus fled the spot. The exact reason behind the crash can only be ascertained after a mechanical inspection of the bus. All the CCTV cameras installed in and around the spot of accident are being scanned, to establish the sequence of events. Efforts are being made to trace the absconding driver,” the DCP said.
