On the occasion of World Diabetes Day (November 14), the Health and Education Promotion Trust (HEPT) organised a public rally to raise awareness about diabetes. The rally commenced at Government Girls Inter College Nehtaur and culminated at the “Free Diabetes and Blood Pressure Screening and Counseling Center” (City Crown Public School) located at Mahdi Villa.

Station House Officer Dheeraj Kumar Nagar inaugurated the rally, congratulating the organisers and participants, and flagged it off. HEPT Secretary Ghizal Mahdi addressed the rally, highlighting the free services offered by the “Diabetes and Blood Pressure Screening and Counseling Center” established under the “Healthy Nehtaur” campaign on October 16, 2022.
Mahdi reported that over 3,500 people have benefited from the services, and more than 600 patients are receiving free treatment and medication from the Community Health Center through this center. Additionally, HEPT has trained 55 students as health volunteers, who provide their services at the screening center and health camps held periodically in municipal wards.
Mahdi emphasised that over 237 million people in India are affected by diabetes, with a 44 per cent increase in patients between 2019 and 2023, a cause for great concern. He stressed that early and regular screening, proper diet, and light exercise can control diabetes and lead to a long, healthy life.
Speakers at the rally, including Babita Rani, Principal of Government Girls Inter College, Sanjeev Gaur, Principal of Nehtaur (PG) Degree College, and Comrade Ghulam Sabir, Patron of the E-Rickshaw Union, appealed to the public to get their sugar and blood pressure levels checked regularly and encourage others to do the same.
The rally was conducted by “Healthy Nehtaur” co-convener Major Charan Singh Sharma and senior health activist Itaat Hussain. Senior students from 12 major educational institutions, principals, teachers, health volunteers, and representatives from various professions associated with the “Healthy Nehtaur” campaign participated in the rally.
