Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan has been granted bail by the Delhi court in the Waqf Board case on Thursday, according to reports.
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday ordered the release of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan on a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh and a surety. Further, the court termed his custody by the agency in the Delhi Waqf Board case “illegal”, reported news18.com.
Bail for Amanatullah Khan at last in Waqf Board case
The news of Khan getting bail spread like wildfire in the locality with sweets being distributed in AAP’s Shaheen Bagh office. Photos of sweet distribution in the area also surfaced.
Khan was arrested on September 2 under the provisions of the PMLA by the ED, which conducted a search at his house in Batla House.
His release will boost his chance in the Assembly election which is to be held next year, said sources. Amanatullah will be trying his luck as MLA for the third time if he gets ticket from AAP. When he was in jail, there were some local leaders who were eyeing the ticket.
Khan’s counsel Rajat Bhardwaj told ANI: “The court has declined to take cognizance against Amanatullah Khan because there was no sanction against him, and the court has directed his release with the surety of Rs. one lakh. There’s no evidence against accused number seven, Mariam Siddiqui, therefore no summons have been issued against her”.
