    V-C Najma gives pep-talk to newly admitted Jamia’s BTech students

    Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor, Professor Najma Akhtar, addressed and interacted with the newly admitted students of BTech Engineering programme of the university on November 4, 2022.

    While congratulating students on getting an opportunity to study in the illustrious institution like Jamia, placed 3rd among universities in NIRF and having NAAC A++ accreditation, Professor Akhtar goaded the students to realise their full potential, optimally utilising the facilities and infrastructure available in the campus.

    She stressed particularly on the role of an engineer in offering solutions to the problems and challenges that a society faces and their commitment for nation building and humanity in general. She highlighted that the university has a wide alumni network and students are highly placed in almost every walk of life. She advised the students to hone their skills and turn out to be versatile individuals, said the university.

    Professor Akhtar expressed her happiness to see a good number of girl students as part of the BTech programme of the university and wished that the number should increase further.

    She was applauded on the announcement of the resuming of hostel facilities for the students shortly.

    She complimented Professor Mini S Thomas, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Heads of the Department and the Faculty Coordinators for successful organising of the students induction programme.

    Earlier, kick-starting the Induction programme, Professor Mini S Thomas, Dean welcomed the fresh students to Jamia,  reiterating that they should feel proud to be part of this great institution and stressed the need to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities along with studies, to develop as rounded individuals.

    Student Induction Programme (SIP, Dikshaarambh) is meant to provide an excellent opportunity to newly admitted students of the B.Tech. programme to get themselves oriented towards the mission and vision of the university and also enrich themselves with Universal Human values that the university’s composite and multicultural academic ambience for the students. The relevance of SIP is paramount not only for students’ rounded development but also, it takes the students on a journey for the pursuit of knowledge.

    All the sessions of the SIP were immaculately designed to address the multiple facets of the student’s life. The organisation of the SIP in the faculty was in consonance with the AICTE guidelines. The focus remained on the Universal Human Values in sync with the essence of New Education Policy 2020 and grooming of Human Capital.

    Students were familiarised with the state of Art in campus facilities like CIT, University Library, Health Centre, Counselling centre, Sports Complex, Controller of Exams etc. The Heads of Department also introduced the salient features of their respective departments. The students were given discursive opportunities to interact with the distinguished experts from the multidisciplinary fields.

    Prof. Furqan Qamar, a renowned academician from JMI delivered a talk on the relevance of the interdisciplinary approaches especially in the field of engineering.  Prof. Sangeetha Kohli from IIT Delhi gave an inspiring lecture on UBUTU and motivated the students to work as a team. Upendra Giri, alumni of the university, encouraged the students to think innovatively. Ritika Subhash also deliberated on the importance of chasing the dreams and materialising them. Shalini Singh, a prominent social worker, made the students aware of the issue of gender sensitization.

    The Student Induction programme will continue for the next two weeks and the students will continue to explore different facets of Universal Human values and in campus facilities.
