Jamaat-residents standoff over, organisation opens gates for emergency use only

Restricted entry to local residents since second Covid-wave induced lockdown, Jamaat-E-Islami Hind has opened its two gates for emergency use only, according to a reliable source. The religious organisation was talk of the locality after some residents had locked its gates from outside in protest for being not allowed to use the road connecting E block to D block.

The JIH had restricted entry of the campus for residents to follow Covid-protocol. Also, local residents were not allowed to turn up at the newly built Ishat-e-Islami mosque in large number due to Covid orders issued from the government, said the source.

However, its move had upset many residents with some in protest locking the gate from outside denying the people residing on the campus and working there entry to D and E block for days until the issue got resolved between the two parties.

A guard manning the gate said only residents have been allowed to cross from E to D block and vice versa and residents are not allowed to walk.

For years many residents have been using the lush green sprawling campus for morning and even walk. After the second wave their movement too has been restricted.

A senior official on the condition of anonymity said the restrictions are for the betterment of the residents as people don’t follow Covid protocol. We should understand that Covid is not over and hence it is important that government laid norms should be followed strictly.
