Due to Covid, demand for oximeters goes up in Okhla, many residents struggle to find one in Jamia Nagar

As demand for oximeters goes up in Okhla, many residents said they are unable to find one in shops in Jamia Nagar. Following which many are now ordering online.

He said he called up several chemist shops and they all said they have run out of oximeters. It has been noticed that since the lack of oxygen in one’s body is seen as a major symptom of Covid, people have been increasingly using the device to monitor oxygen saturation level in their body while at home.

A chemist owner said it would be available in a day.

It is another story that the resident said a friend gave him the oximeter but it was difficult to find one in a local shop with one shopkeeper saying that he will get one from him online if he orders one.

A chemist owner said local brands are available and they come from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500. Also some residents said it is being sold more than the MRP now.

Last year, pulse oximeters were described as ‘suraskha kavach’ by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The CM had termed pulse oximeters as ‘suraksha kavach’ (protective shield) that have helped minimise Covid-19 deaths of patients under home isolation in Delhi.

“Delhi has been able to minimise deaths of corona patients in home isolation thru this suraksha kavach called pulse oximeter. If patients detect their oxygen is falling, they reach out to us for help. We immediately send oxygen concentrators to their home or take them to a hospital,” Kejriwal said in a tweet last year.
