Jamia–Oracle seminar: What was discussed? Here is the report.

The University Placement Cell, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has partnered with Oracle Academy which will provide free online resources to students and faculty in the area of Artificial Intelligence, Cloud computing and other emerging areas.

To elaborate and sensitise the students and faculty about these resources, Habibur Rahman, Principal Member of Technical Staff at Oracle, delivered an insightful talk on “Oracle 23ai Distributed Database for Resilient Never-Down Application and Walk Through AI/ML trends”.

Rahman is known for mentoring over 1,000 Oracle Engineering Systems professionals globally, and holds numerous certifications including Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Professional, Autonomous Database Specialist, and DevOps Foundation from IBM. Based in Gurugram, India, he continues to contribute as a thought leader in Oracle database technologies and cloud engineering. The talk emphasized how students can leverage Oracle 23ai for their projects, the latest industry trends in AI and database technologies, and the resources from Oracle Academy which are most beneficial for B. Tech./M. Tech. students.

The seminar was attended by more than 130 students of B. Tech., M. Tech., MCA, and M.Sc. AIML in the seminar room of UPC. After introducing Oracle 23ai and the valuable resources now available through Oracle Academy, Habibur Rahman also addressed student queries on emerging IT trends, job market insights, and interview preparation in a supportive and approachable manner. Students were grateful for this opportunity to bridge cutting-edge technology with career guidance!

The program was organised by the team at University Placement Cell led by Prof. Rahela Farooqi, Prof. Rihan Khan Suri, Prof. Saba Khan in collaboration with faculty from the Department of Computer Science namely Prof. Suraiya Jabin, Prof. Syed Zeeshan Hussain, and Dr. Ahmad Kamal.

The seminar was hosted with great poise and the event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Rahela Farooqi acknowledging the wonderful support offered by Oracle for faculty members, and students of Jamia.

In another event on the campus on September 23, the University Cultural Committee, Office of the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), Jamia, in collaboration with the Medanta Foundation, successfully organised an interactive workshop on Breast Health Awareness and Self-Breast Examination (SBE) under the national campaign Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan. The workshop, titled “Aao Jaano Seekho”, was designed to empower young women with essential knowledge and practical skills for the early detection of breast cancer.

Drawing attention to the GLOBOCAN 2022 report, which recorded nearly 192,000 new breast cancer cases in India with an age-standardised incidence rate of 26.6 per 100,000 women, the workshop underscored the urgent need for awareness, early detection, and preventive healthcare practices.

The event was organised under the guidance of Prof. Neelofer Afzal, Dean Students’ Welfare. The programme began with inaugural remarks highlighting the importance of collective participation in building a culture of preventive healthcare. This was followed by the felicitation of Kausar Kidwai, CSR Head and AVP, Medanta Group, and Dr. Neeti Yadav, Senior Medical Officer, Breast and Onco-Surgery, by Prof. Neelofer Afzal.

A team from the Medanta Foundation led the interactive sessions, delivering valuable insights on breast health and the importance of timely diagnosis. Adding a hands-on component, demonstration of Self-Breast Examination using medical simulators was unique to the session.

Participants actively engaged in the practice session, gaining confidence in identifying simulated abnormalities.

The workshop was conducted in two sessions —forenoon session at 10:00 am and afternoon session at 2:00 pm — and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of more than 250 female students and staff members. Each session concluded with an interactive Question & Answer round, allowing participants to clarify doubts and engage in meaningful dialogue with the experts.

The programme concluded with participants taking a collective pledge to perform monthly self-breast examinations, encourage peers and family members to do the same, and spread awareness about the significance of early detection.

The event ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Adila Parveen, Assistant Dean Students’ Welfare, who expressed gratitude to the Medanta Foundation team, distinguished guests, and participants for making the workshop a meaningful success.

Through this initiative, Jamia reaffirmed the commitment to promoting preventive healthcare, breaking stigma, and empowering communities towards healthier futures.
