Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has retained its 13th position in the ‘overall’ category and has been ranked 4th in the ‘university category’ in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Ranking 2025, released today by the Union Education Minister,  Dharmendra Pradhan. Worth noting that this year, the Ministry of Education has ranked institutions on 17 categories, introducing the SDG or sustainable rankings. In this category, JMI has bagged third position among Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) institutions.

Congratulating the university on its tremendous success, especially in new and challenging parameters like the SDGs, Vice Chancellor Jamia Prof. Mazhar Asif said: “It is a matter of great honour for us that JMI has retained its position among the top 5 institutions of the country and has been ranked 13th in the overall category in the NIRF Ranking 2025. We have done exceedingly well among the SDG institutions and hope that we can improve our position in the disciplines of Engineering, Management, and Dentistry given our dedicated team of faculty members in these coveted branches.”

Prof. Asif said: “This year’s ranking is a testament of the hard work of our faculty and JMI’s excellence in academic research, outreach and collaboration with industry, skill-based and value-based education. We hope to work on some of the challenges that came in our way so that we can improve our rankings next year and continue to take the 105-year old institution to newer heights. The NIRF Ranking 2025 is a testament of our commitment to academic rigour as we uphold Jamia’s legacy of leadership in education.”

Registrar Jamia, Prof Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, who along with the VC JMI, Prof. Asif, attended the special event for the release of the NIRF at the Bharat Mandapam in the national capital extended his congratulations to the entire JMI fraternity, the teachers, staff, students, including the Internal Quality Assurance (IQAC) Cell, on this accomplishment.

Prof. Rizvi said: “NIRF Ranking 2025 reflects that JMI continues on its trajectory of progress and growth in all teaching and learning parameters and in the area of research. To be ranked third among SDG institutions is a milestone that inspires us to work together in meaningful ways to contribute to the society, and to protect our environment and create a greener and sustainable campus”

In the ‘Architecture and Planning’ category, JMI has been ranked at the 5th position and bagged the 8th position in Law among all participating institutions. The university has been ranked 17th in Dental and 20th among all research institutions. In Engineering, JMI has been ranked at the 24th position and 28th in Management.

Congratulating the teachers on the eve of Teachers’ Day, VC JMI, Prof. Asif asked the faculty members to “continue to work towards building an India that shines as a beacon of knowledge and harmony on the national and global stage by igniting and inspiring young minds.” He also urged the teachers to pledge to further increase JMI’s overall ranking in the 11th edition of the NIRF.

This year’s rankings have been released across 17 categories – overall, universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dental, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors, open universities, skill universities, state public universities and SDGs institutes.

NIRF rankings evaluate institutions on the following parameters: Teaching, Learning and Resources; Research and Professional Practices; Graduation Outcomes; Outreach and Inclusivity and Perception. This is the tenth edition of NIRF.
