A three hours traffic jam on Abul Fazal Eclave-Kalindi Kunj road on Wednesday had thrown life out of gear. The jam started due to breakdown of a DTC bus at thokar number 4 in AFE. Following which both sides roads got jam, creating chaos with many commuters, particularly bikers, taking different routs using lanes to reach their destination. Residents said with many bikers taking wrong sides, the situation became more chaotic. A resident Syed Aqeel said jams are nothing new for this locality due to encroachment and some residents parking their vehicles on roadside on the AFE-Kalindi Kunj road.

He said had there been no parking the situation after the breakdown of the bus could have been not so chaotic as there could have been enough space for plying of e-rickshaws and bikers.

For long residents have been demanding the end to encroachment. They said due encroachment and illegally parked cars the road is narrowed and overcrowded and at times leading to road mishaps also. They recalled an accident on this route a few days ago when a speeding car had hit a standing bike behind a stationary bus in the morning when there is huge rush. The father and son were hurt in the accident.

A parent even wrote a letter to Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan urging him to interfere in the matter and get the encroachment and illegally parked vehicles issues resolved as soon as possible so that parents don’t face hardship while dropping and picking their children from schools.
