Tablighi Jamaat takes centre stage in Okhla civic poll 2022
As election campaign for the MCD elections 2022 picks up across Delhi, opposition candidates be it Congress or AIMIM they all are raising the issue of Tablighi Jamaat in Muslim-dominated Okhla to corner AAP candidates.
While addressing a gathering in Okhla on Wednesday, Congress candidate from Abul Fazal Enclave-Shaheen Bagh Areeba Khan raised the issue of Tablighi Jamaat saying the markaz was targeted by the Arvind Kejriwal Government during Covid time.
She said a respectable personality Tablighi chief Maulan Saad too was not sparred and a column was added while declaring Covid numbers called Markaz Masjid.
AIMIM candidate Arif Saifi too has been raisin the issue of targeting of Tablighi Jamaat during Covid.
However, later on the Delhi government made a decision to reclassify the Tablighi Jamaat-linked cases in its bulletin as “Special Operations” cases. Earlier, they were called the “Markaz Masjid” cases in the city government’s health bulletins so far, the HT had reported.
The Delhi Minorities Commission, according to news agency ANI, had insisted that the mention of the masjid in the bulletins had led to Muslims being attacked and calls made for their social boycott.
“It was felt that the government’s descriptor might be seen to communalise what is essentially a health crisis,” a government official told Hindustan Times.
