The event marked a significant initiative in the field of creative arts on campus and was graced by Prof (Dr) Reshma Nasreen, Dean of Students’ Welfare, as the chief guest.

What set the workshop apart was not only its focus on theatrical makeup but also its inclusive and stereotype-breaking approach. Students from several departments — including Pharmacy, Paramedical, International Studies, Management, Engineering, Unani and others — participated enthusiastically, reflecting a rising interdisciplinary curiosity toward the performing arts with more than 35 participants.
The session was conducted by Atiya Kareem, a final-year BAJMC student and a budding makeup influencer with more than 13,000 Instagram followers.
Her engaging and professional guidance gave students an immersive experience into the world of dramatic and theatrical makeup, completed with practical sessions that allowed participants to try their hands at makeup application using brushes and palettes.
Prof (Dr) Reshma Nasreen appreciated the efforts of the students and commended the club for such a creative and empowering initiative. She also expressed her delight in seeing such talented individuals within the university.
“I’m very happy to see that we have such a brilliant influencer working in the makeup industry and gaining professional experience at such a young age,” she said while presenting certificates to all participants.
One of the most striking highlights of the workshop was the active participation of male students, many of whom volunteered as both models and makeup artists.
Their involvement boldly challenged traditional norms around makeup and masculinity, standing as a symbol of inclusivity, artistic freedom, and evolving perspectives.
The faculty coordinators of the workshop, Dr AQ Siddiqui and Dr Nisa Askari, played a pivotal role in organising the event. Other faculty members, including Dr Purnima Oran, Dr MD Zishan, and Dr Saad Ullah Khan were also present. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Oran said: “Awaz Club is bringing something new and refreshing to campus, making students more engaged and creatively active.”
President of Awaz Club, Muddassir Rashid, said: “This is a platform for drama-enthusiastic students. We aim to organise more events focused on media and dramatics in the near future.”
Vice president Shumaila Fatma said: “This workshop gave students a wonderful opportunity to experiment with dramatic makeup. We are planning bigger events and competitions soon.”
The workshop at Jamia Hamdard not only introduced students to the basics of stage makeup but also laid the groundwork for upcoming dramatics competitions. With this successful event, Awaz Club continues to break barriers, promote creativity, and foster talent across the Jamia Hamdard campus.
