Tablighi Jamaat’s well known face in India and champion of girls’ education, Maulana Md Illyas, passed away in Okhla a few minutes ago in Delhi on Tuesday, according to family sources. He was in-charge of madarsa in Nizamuddin Tablighi Markaz.
He was 92 years old and was unwell for the last many days and hospitalised in Al-Shifa Hospital treatment. But his condition couldn’t improve and he passed away around asar prayer, said a hospital staff.
Md Illyas was a known face in Jamia as well as he had established Zayed College for girls in Abul Fazal Enclave in 2008 where besides madarsa education modern education and computer training were provided to students, said Md Burhan, who worked with the spiritual leader for more than ten years.

His namaz-e-Janaza is to be held tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11 am in 64 khamba Nizamuddin and tadfeen to take place in Nizamuddin panj peeran kabristan, said people who are aware of the development and close to the family.
AAJMI post bearer Badar Alam told the OT that it was only a few days ago when he had met the spiritual leader for arranging Covid vaccination camp in his premises and he was more than welcoming. It is a huge loss to the community and the locality, he said, adding that he was known across the world and in India.
Followers, mostly Tablighi Jamaat members and local residents, were seen lining up at his resident at Zayed College in Abul Fazal Enclave to pay their obeisance to the spiritual leader.
