Watch: Will Amanatullah-Wajid handshake ruin Asif Khan’s political revival chance?
Staying in political hibernation for years after defeat at the hands of AAP’s Amanatullah Khan and not getting Congress ticket last time in the MLA election, Asif Md Khan got a chance to revive his political career after he succeeded in getting ticket for his daughter Areeba Khan for the MCD poll 2022.
After shaking hands with his years’ long foe Congress leader Parvez Hashmi, Asif further brightened his daughter’s political prospects in election battle. But within hours of his sipping tea with Hashmi, Asif had another surprise in waiting as in the evening that day Amanatullah reached Shaheen Bagh to break ice with his Councillor Wajid Khan. Both friends of years, they were not on speaking terms. But all was sorted out in the meeting with the AAP taking out unity march in the locality sending a message that all was right in the party.
The AAP was getting to pick up its tempo for the election campaign when Asif fired a fresh salvo against Wajid and Amanatullah. Okhla observers said the fight for Shaheen Bagh is going to intensify further with this development. They said with Wajid up against anti-incumbency his popularity would be tested this time around.
Also, it would be a challenge for Amanatullah, a popular Okhla leader, to help his friend Wajid, win seat for second term from Abul Fazal Enclave ward, said observers.
