Violation of single-use plastic ban in Delhi to invite fine of up to Rs 1 lakh or jail term: Rai
To promote alternatives to single-use plastic in Delhi starting today, the Plastic Vikalp Mela was launched at the Thyagaraj Stadium. Environment Minister Gopal Rai officially inaugurated the Plastic Vikalp Mela and said: “From today single-use plastic has been banned in the entire country, in the first phase 19 items have been included in the purview of the ban.
“The Delhi government has prepared a comprehensive action plan for this. On one hand, while the government is taking all steps to promote the alternative of single use plastic, on the other hand, an enforcement team has been constituted by the DPCC and revenue department to implement its ban. In which 15 teams of DPCC and 33 teams of Revenue Department will work to inspect the restrictions on SUP items.
“Under which warning notices will be issued to those who violate the SUP ban till July 10 and after that penal action will be taken against them by these teams. Along with this, violating the ban on SUP items will also attract a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh or a jail term of up to 5 years under the Environment Protection Act.”
