Former Jamia V-C Najma continues to occupy university bungalow
Despite her Vice Chancellor tenure ending on November 12, 2023, Najma Akhtar continues to occupy the university quarter, as reported by the media.
This action by the former Vice Chancellor is in violation of Central Government regulations, which stipulate that an employee is required to vacate the official residence within one month from the conclusion of their tenure.

A senior university official stated on Saturday that Najma has requested additional time to vacate the official bungalow, explaining that she needs time to make alternative arrangements.
“Professor Najma has written a letter to the university administration requesting an extension on her stay in the VC lodge until she can make alternative arrangements,” the official reported to PTI.
The university is yet to respond to Akhtar’s request, which has been pending with the registrar’s office for over a month.
Jamia does not adhere to any specified time limit for an outgoing Vice Chancellor to vacate the official residence. Incidents of outgoing Vice Chancellors overstaying in the bungalow have occurred in the past as well.
Akhtar mentioned that she had not received any communication from the university regarding eviction.
“I wrote to the university for an extension even before my tenure ended. To date, I haven’t received any response to the letter,” Akhtar told PTI.
In her absence, the university is being headed by Eqbal Hussian, officiating Vice Chancellor.
