Dr Farasat loses battle with cancer, Okhla mourns his death
A well-known orthopedic doctor, Farasat Hussain, passed away in Delhi at 3.30 am two days ago, was laid to rest in Gaya on Saturday. A large number of people, including former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, doctors, engineers, lawyers and people from all walks of life, turned up at Gaya’s Gandhi Maidan to pay their last respect.
A doctor by profession, 70-year-old Farasat’s heart used to beat for the downtrodden as he headed several orgainisations involved in uplifting the deprived. Though based in Bihar’s Gaya, Dr Farasat used to visit Okhla on and off and had a large following among Gaya residents of Okhla.
Rizwan Khan, who knew Dr Farasat, for years said it is a great loss to the people of Gaya. Dr Farasat was associated with an orphanage centre in Gaya. After having some health issues, he had gone to the US for treatment and was diagnosed with cancer and he lost the fight against the killer disease some two days ago in Delhi where he was getting treatment, said Khan, adding that the body was flown to Patna and then from there to Gaya, his hometown.
People who knew him mourned his death on social media. Another Okhla resident Javed Khan, who is also from Gaya and knew Dr Farasat, said it is sad news.
Dr Farasat has left behind two children, one son and daughter, both well settled.
