Covid cases in Delhi rise again
At a time when many in the national Capital thought that Covid was over, the news of Delhi recording 299 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours on Wednesday has left many concerned.
According to data shared by the city health department, 299 new Covid cases and zero death were reported on Wednesday while the positivity rate stood at 2.49 per cent.
In the last one week the positivity rate has jumped from 0.5 per cent to 2.70 per cent. Following the rise, doctors have cautioned against dropping the guard.
On Monday, the city had seen 137 cases with the positivity rate at 2.70 per cent, which was touted as the highest in two months.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday had said the city government was keeping a watchful eye on the Covid-19 situation and there was no reason to worry until a new variant of concern is detected.
Many residents in Okhla still recall that how in 2021 during Ramzan many faced hardship and some even had lost their family members.
It was for the first time in two years that residents across India are celebrating Ramzan without Covid restrictions. With the cases declining, the government too had lifted several Covid curbs. However, with the arrival of new Covid variant, XE, in the UK with the WHO reporting about it many are concerned as the new variant has been termed as highly transmissible.
