Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said the Delhi government is going to provide pulse oxymeters to corona patients recovering under home isolation. He said every district will have oxygen concentrators, Delhi will have a helpline and the team will come to the homes of the recovering patients to provide you oxygen. Significantly enhancing it’s position, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) has for the first time figured in top ten universities in the MHRD’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Ranking Report -2020 released by the HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ today. JMI has been ranked at the 10th position in the country in universities category, improving its position from 12 last year. In ‘overall category’ the university has been placed at 16th position, enhancing it’s ranking from 19th last year. Jamia Millia Islamia student Shaheen Abdulla has won the Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) Award 2019 in the print and electronic media category with acclaimed journalists like Qurban Ali (former BBC journalist), author Humra Quraishi and Aditya Menon (The Quint). Mahtab Alam (The Wire, Urdu) has also won the award. Shaheen is studying Convergent Journalism at Jamia and also works with Maktoob as Creative Editor. The DMC is headed by Zafarul Islam Khan who brings out The Milli Gazette. Okhla-based activist Shama Khan has been awarded the “Community Service Award 2019” by the Delhi Minorities Commission and was felicitated by its chairman Dr Zafarul Islam Khan very recently. Zakir Nagar-based social activist Musharraf Husain (chairman of Roshan Trust) has been honoured with the Delhi Minorities Commission 2019 Award for his outstanding contributions to community service. DMC chairman Zafar-ul Islam Khan presented the award to the activist a few days ago. Musharraf Husain is also treasurer Milli Council and is in-charge of Darul Qada, Okhla chapter. He played an important role in opening free Joga Bai library in the locality. Born in 1947 in UP, Musharraf Husain was head of Batla House Government school and is a known figure.
Many Okhla netizens mourned the death of 45-year-old Akhtar Alam on Friday due to coronavirus. Alam, an alumnus of Jamia Millia Islamia who resided in Okhla for years, died in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, where he was working as a General Manager in a polyclinic, said a netizen on Friday. Born in Katihar, Alam came to Delhi for higher studies after which he moved to the Middle East in hunt for job, wrote residents on the social media. He is survived by four children and a wife who reside in Bangalore, said Syed Tahseen Ahmed, who knew him.
