Will Areeba be able to repeat her 20 years’ old ‘feat’?
Life has come full circle for Areeba Khan, Congress candidate from Abul Fazal Enclave-Shaheen Bagh ward.
When she washttps://youtu.be/RS39fsy30kc nine years old, her father Asif Md Khan was in jail and as a child she had went door-to-door to ask Okhla residents to vote for him. And then Asif came out from the jail with flying colours.
Cut to November 2022, the situation is identical. The only difference is this time Areeba is contesting her first MCD election and his father is in jail. He has been arrested for misbehaving with a police outside Tayyab Masjid, leaving his only child to steer her own election campaign.
Areeba is going around the city asking for support. A few videos doing the round on the social media show her raking up the issue of her father arrest and his victimisation. Local political observers said she is playing the sympathy card and it would be interesting to see whether she succeeds in repeated the feat that she did as a child for her father.
When asked whether Asif’s absence has weakened the will of the Congress workers, Md Ayub said: “The campaign is going on with full force and we are going strong. We are hopeful to register a win.”
