Watch: Al-Bake’s owner talking about Friday incident
After months of hiatus, food critic Javed Khan resumes food reviews. In the first one after Ramzan, he visited Al-Bake in New Friends’ Community Centre on Saturday to cover the terrace collapse incident from ground zero. After interacting with the Al-Bake’s owner Saquib Beg, Khan walks through the shop’s other part where business as usual was going with food lovers relishing Al-Bake’s shawarma.
The incident, which got wide attention in the locality, took place on Friday night. Luckily, no major incident happened as Saquib said a few delivery boys who had sustained minor injuries were released after first aid. The video of the event had surfaced on the social media and the issue became talk of the town.
A resident said the caving of terrace was a sad development and first in many years.
The world’s most popular delicacy, shawarma, was introduced to Delhi and Okhla by MZ Beg some 22 years ago and since then the dish continues to grab attention with huge food lovers turning up at its NFC branch to taste it. In the beginning, the shop used to sell shawarma which originally was made of lamb. But as its popularity grew, the delicacy was made of thin cuts of lamb, chicken, turkey and others.
