Two youths, one from Zakir Nagar and the other from Haji Colony, died in a road accident while riding a sports bike after Sehri. Their bike crashed into a divider, according to Wasim Khan, who is familiar with the incident.
Speaking to OT over the phone, Khan said the youths from Okhla had gone for a bike ride after Sehri when the accident occurred. “They were riding a 900 cc sports bike. One of them, likely the rider, was a YouTuber from Haji Colony who used to post bike-riding videos on Instagram. Both lost their lives. One of them was my neighbour — a good young boy. Our entire area is in shock,” he said.
A neighbour, speaking on condition of anonymity, said he met the well-behaved young man on Wednesday at 12:30 am in Zakir Nagar outside the lane and noticed him carrying two helmets. When asked why, he replied that he was heading to Abul Fazal Enclave, number 6.
During Ramadan, it is common for youngsters to stay out until Sehri, as most shops remain open and the area takes on a festive atmosphere.
One of the deceased, Zafar’s son Saif, had completed his BBA from Jamia.
Sharing about the incident, Councillor Ariba Khan wrote on her timeline: “Zafar Ansari uncle’s son has passed away. May Allah forgive the deceased and give patience to the family. Ameen.
Namaz-e-Janaza will be offered at Batla House graveyard after Taraweeh.”
Ariba’s father Asif Mohammed Khan aware of the development said it is very shocking that two young boys life lost in the accident. Parents should keep an eye on their children, he said.
Asif said the body of other youth has come just now and it will be laid to rest.
Social activist Syed Izharul Hasan expressed his concerns about the safety of young people in the area. Addressing parents, he said the need for strict vigilance over their children, especially during late-night hours. He highlighted that many youngsters leave home in the evening under the pretext of fasting or prayers and remain unaccounted for until Sehri.
He spoke about a recent tragic accident in which a young rider from Zakir Nagar lost his life while riding a high-speed bike somewhere in Gurugram. Another youth also died and he is from Haji Colony. He is expected to be laid to rest tomorrow in Batla House graveyard.
He expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the grieving families.
In his appeal, he urged parents to monitor their children’s whereabouts and ensure they do not engage in reckless behaviour, such as over-speeding on bikes — whether they have a license or not. He also warned about the increasing influence of intoxication among youth and stressed the importance of keeping them away from negative peer influences.
Hasan called upon the residents of Okhla to take collective responsibility for their children’s safety. He urged parents to prevent their kids from reckless biking and ensure their involvement in positive activities. Concluding his appeal, he prayed for the protection of all families from unfortunate incidents.
