Jamia celebrates 74th Independence Day following Covid-19 guidelines
74th Independence Day was celebrated today at Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) while maintaining social distancing and other Covid-19 guidelines.
The main function was organised at the lawns of Dr MA Ansari Auditorium of the university where teaching, non-teaching staff and a few students of senior classes of Jamia Senior Secondary School assembled for celebration in view of the pandemic.
The National Flag was unfurled at 9 am as the National Anthem was sung by the gathering . A small cultural program was also held where students sang patriotic songs and gave speeches.
Principal of the Jamia Senior Secondary School Dr. Atiqurrehman welcomed all the guests. Although the function was small considering Covid-19 guidelines yet the university premises wore a festive look with balloons, Tricolours and flowers adding to the ambiance.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar and Registrar AP Siddiqui (IPS) congratulated everyone for the Independence Day.
Prof Akhtar said Jamia was born in the lap of the non-cooperation movement and its founders struggled hard for the Independence of the country and let us re-dedicated ourselves to the service of our beloved nation.
She also congratulated the Jamia fraternity on the university acquiring the top place among all central universities in the MHRD’s assessment of performance of all central universities. We should not only try to maintain the pinnacle but also achieve still higher goals in the coming years, she said.
Siddiqui said we are fortunate to have a very able woman Vice Chancellor and a good administrator who is guiding the university to new heights and it is growing from strength to strength.
